Feeling stuck in something you thought you’d moved past?
EMDR therapy helps your brain process unresolved experiences so you can feel calmer, clearer, and back in control.
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a gentle, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process those experiences properly - so they no longer feel so charged.
It’s not about going over everything again and again…It’s about helping your system finally let it go.
There are moments in life that don’t fully “land” when they happen. Your mind moves on… but your body doesn’t.
You might notice it as:
Feeling triggered by things that don’t seem that big
Overreacting and not knowing why
A constant sense of anxiety or tension
Patterns in relationships you can’t seem to shift
How EMDR works
I often explain this like this…
When something overwhelming happens, your brain can store it as an “unfinished file.”
Instead of being processed and filed away as the past…it stays active.
So even though the event is over, your body can still respond like it’s happening now.
This is why you might:
Feel anxious without a clear reason
React quickly before you’ve had time to think
Struggle to “just move on,” even when you want to
EMDR helps your brain go back and finish processing that experience - safely and at your pace.
Once it’s processed properly, it no longer triggers the same emotional or physical response.
What EMDR can help with
EMDR isn’t just for big, obvious trauma. It can help with anything that still feels unresolved or “stuck” in your system.
This might include:
Anxiety or constant overthinking
Feeling easily triggered or overwhelmed
Childhood experiences that still affect you today
Relationship patterns you don’t understand
Low self-worth or confidence
Specific events (loss, accidents, difficult experiences)
Often, clients come in saying: “I know why I feel this way… I just can’t seem to change it.”
That’s exactly where EMDR can help.
What an EMDR session feels like…
This is one of the biggest questions people have. And it’s important to know - you are always in control.
EMDR is not about forcing you to relive things intensely or pushing you too far.
Instead, we:
Work at a pace that feels safe for you
Stay connected to the present moment
Use guided techniques to help your brain process gently
Many people are surprised by how natural the process feels.
It’s less about talking more… and more about allowing your brain to do what it already knows how to do - with the right support.
Why I use EMDR in my practice
Over the years, I’ve worked with so many people who:
Understand their patterns
Can talk about their experiences
Know what they “should” be doing
…but still feel stuck.
And that’s because insight alone isn’t always enough.
So much of what drives our reactions comes from deeper patterns, often formed early in life, that sit in the subconscious.
EMDR allows us to work at that level.
It helps shift not just how you think… but how you feel and respond.
For many of my clients, this is the piece that finally creates real change.
Is EMDR right for you?
This might be a good fit if:
You feel like something from the past is still affecting you
You’ve done talk therapy but still feel stuck
Your reactions feel bigger than the situation
You want a deeper, more lasting shift — not just coping strategies
